Daniel F. Thornton concentrates his practice on representing public and independent schools throughout New Jersey. He counsels boards of education and school administrators on statutory and regulatory compliance, labor and employment issues, public contracting, special education, student discipline, civil rights, risk management, and litigation avoidance. He regularly defends school districts and officials in state, federal, and administrative courts, including actions filed under Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, IDEA, and state-law equivalents.

Prior to joining the Comegno Law Group, Dan served as a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, where he defended State agencies and officials against claims of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in state and federal court. During the 2014-2015 court term, Dan clerked for the Honorable Carmen H. Alvarez, P.J.A.D., of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. Dan received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2014, where he served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Tax Review. He graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Music Performance in 2010. He is a member of the bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Dan is actively involved in the community. This year, he is co-chairing the Burlington County Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee. He also serves as Music Leader for Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill.
