On July 30, 2013, Mark G. Toscano, Esq. was invited to provide a workshop training session at McGuire Air Force Base to Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Instructors from all across the Northeast Region during their annual Summer Conference.

Attendees were honorably retired military personnel that are now employed by local school districts to oversee and teach the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps curriculum in their respective host schools in New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The presentation, which was entitled “Don’t Become an ABC Afterschool Special: Boundaries for Staff-Student Interactions,” focused on educating instructors on the legal aspects of the student-teacher relationship and their mandatory reporting responsibilities for suspected child abuse.

Attendees also received legal and practical guidance on appropriate staff-student interactions and communications in the modern-day electronic age, including cell phone, text-messaging, Facebook and other on-line communication mediums.
